Kent Police Launch Hard-Hitting Operation to Smash Robbery Spree

Kent Police have kicked off a week-long crackdown on robbery, targeting crime hotspots with increased patrols and swift arrests. Operation Calibre, which started on Saturday 10 December and runs until 17 December, aims to stamp out robbery ahead of the busy festive season.

Operation Calibre: What’s Happening?

The nationwide initiative focuses on education, prevention, engagement, and enforcement. Police will be highly visible in known trouble areas, ready to nab offenders and protect shoppers as the Christmas rush kicks in.

Robbery on the Rise in Kent

Robberies in Kent remain worryingly high, with 1,240 offences reported from December 2021 to December 2022. To tackle this, Kent has a dedicated Chief Constable’s Crime Squad hunting down serial offenders and disrupting criminal activity across the county.

Since launching in February 2019, the squad has helped lock up crooks for a staggering combined total of over 1,600 years. They’ve made 1,035 arrests and secured nearly 3,000 charges. Recently, they earned a six-year stretch for a man who robbed victims in Ashford alleyways.

Zero Tolerance, No Excuses

Detective Chief Inspector Matt Talboys from the Crime Squad warned: “Personal robbery leaves lasting trauma. Criminals prey on the vulnerable, especially when streets are busier with Christmas shoppers.

“If you’re robbed, report it immediately. Victims and witnesses are central to our work. To criminals thinking they can get away with violence: we will find you and you will face serious consequences.”

“Everyone can be a target, so stay alert and protect yourself,” added DCI Talboys.

Top Tips to Stay Safe This Festive Season

Kent Police is sending a clear message: Your safety is their priority, and robbers won’t get away this Christmas.
