Knife Attack in Basildon Lands Two Behind Bars

A brutal knife assault in Basildon has ended with two young men jailed.

Attack on Laindon Link

On the evening of 28 February last year, a man in his 20s was walking along Laindon Link when he was approached by two assailants. One, 23-year-old Billy Alder, suddenly pulled out a large knife and struck the victim.

The victim fled but was chased by Alder and a 17-year-old boy into Great Knightleys. There, the victim was attacked again until a member of the public shouted out, forcing the pair to flee.

Injured Victim and Swift Police Action

The victim suffered multiple injuries to his back, side, and legs. Police launched an immediate investigation.

  • Alder was arrested at his home in Ward Close, Basildon, on 5 March.
  • The 17-year-old was arrested four days later.

Guilty Pleas and Sentencing

Both attackers faced attempted murder charges but ultimately pleaded guilty to grievous bodily harm with intent.

At Basildon Crown Court on 14 April, Alder was locked up for seven years. The 17-year-old received a prison term of four years and nine months.
