Violent Margate Man Jailed for Attacking Four Police Officers
Paul Ioannou has been locked up after viciously attacking four police officers called to a disturbance in Margate.
Knuckleduster, Biting and Death Threats
The 36-year-old lost it in Vicarage Place in the early hours of Sunday, 31 May 2020. He threw a knuckleduster at the first officer on scene and tried to kick her. Then, he shoved a second officer to the ground, holding him down until he struggled for breath.
Two more officers arrived, only for Ioannou to knock one down and bite him. He also punched a female officer in the stomach and threatened to kill one of the officers.
Quick Arrest and Conviction
- Arrested and charged swiftly
- Admitted two counts of assault causing actual bodily harm
- Also pleaded guilty to two counts of assaulting an emergency worker
- Admitted making threats to kill
He appeared at Maidstone Crown Court on 22 July and was sentenced to one year behind bars.
Kent Police Fire Back
“Ioannou was extremely violent towards our officers and the injuries they suffered could have been a lot worse,” said Chief Inspector Ed Ruffle, Thanet District Commander. “All Kent officers face unpredictable, challenging and volatile situations but they shouldn’t have to accept abuse or assault. Attacking our officers is simply unacceptable. Expect serious charges and penalties if you’re caught.”
