Homeless Thieves Nabbed After Daring Bag and Gadget Spree
Two homeless men, Daniel Ramzi, 26, and Abderrahim Mamma, 29, have admitted to a string of thefts across London’s City after being caught red-handed. Their crime spree, spanning January 15 and 21, saw them snatch mobile phones, laptops and handbags from unsuspecting victims in busy spots across the capital.
Snatching Phones and Laptops on Bishopsgate and Beyond
The pair struck first at a fast-food joint on Bishopsgate, ripping a mobile phone straight from a coat pocket. Their thieving didn’t stop there. They made off with laptops at a licensed venue on Gracechurch Street and again in a pub at Leadenhall Market. CCTV footage showed them daringly reaching over barriers to swipe gadgets before slipping stolen bags back in place.
Bag Swapping Scams at Popular Pubs
On January 21, Ramzi and Mamma pulled off a slick bag swap scam at a pub on Old Broad Street. Ramzi swapped stolen bags for others in a blink-and-you-miss-it con, repeating the trick on another group before making a quick getaway.
Justice Served: Jail and Bans Handed Down
- Abderrahim Mamma was sentenced to 20 months behind bars and slapped with a five-year ban from the City of London. He also admitted to seven other thefts outside the City.
- Daniel Ramzi received 14 months in prison.
“This is another great result in seeing two prolific bag thieves behind bars. We hope that these sentences will give reassurance to businesses and members of the public that we take such offences very seriously,” said Sergeant James Wood of the City of London Police. “Our warning to criminals; don’t come into the City to steal bags. We will bring those committing crimes in the City to justice and we will use all of our resources to help prevent and deter any further criminal activities.”
