Officer Clings to Car Bonnet in High-Speed Shoplifting Escape!
Shoplifting Attempt Sparks Dangerous Chase in East Sheen
At around 7pm on Tuesday, 19 April, a Met Police officer from the Roads and Transport Policing Command tried to arrest a suspected shoplifter inside a supermarket on Upper Richmond Road, East Sheen.
The suspect fled by jumping into a car, ignoring the officer’s commands to stop.
Police Officer Dragged on Car Bonnet
The officer was left clutching the vehicle’s bonnet as it sped off for a short distance. Luckily, an off-duty officer nearby spotted the drama and rushed to help.
Emergency services were called, and the injured officer was taken to hospital with wounds to his hands and legs. He has since been discharged.
Two Arrested – Facing Serious Charges
- A 40-year-old woman faces multiple allegations including theft of a motor vehicle, grievous bodily harm, possession of Class A drugs, shoplifting, and driving while disqualified.
- A 41-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of actual bodily harm, theft, allowing himself to be carried in a stolen vehicle, and failing to appear in court.
Both remain in police custody.
