Metro Chaos Strikes Again: Services Suspended After Overnight Theft

Metro services ground to a halt once more on Sunday following a brazen cable theft between Wallsend and Monkseaton. This latest hit comes hot on the heels of similar incidents that rocked the line on January 5 and 6.

£1,000 Reward and Ramp Up in Security

Nexus, the Metro operator, has had enough. On Thursday, they dangled a tempting £1,000 reward for anyone who helps nail the cable thieves. To toughen security, they’ve also boosted overnight patrols to keep criminals at bay.

Police Clampdown: “This Won’t Be Tolerated”

“This type of behaviour will not be tolerated and officers are continuing to carry out regular checks across the system alongside Nexus,” said Northumbria Police.

They urged the public: “Anyone with information should contact police via the ‘Tell Us Something’ page of our website or by calling 101, quoting log number NP-20230106-0038.”

Commuters are left frustrated as Metro chaos drags on, with authorities scrambling to stop the costly crime spree.
