Emergency Landing Shakes Gatwick as Emirates A380 Faces Gear Glitch
An Emirates Airbus A380 flight from Dubai to Gatwick hit serious trouble on approach, sparking an urgent call for emergency crews.
Plane Circles Gatwick, Fire Crew on High Alert
Flight EK9, registrated A6-EUN, veered off course and circled before making an emergency request for ground support. Gatwick Airport Fire Service and ground units scrambled to the runway, ready for any worst-case scenario.
Safe Touchdown but Runway Shut for 30 Minutes
The giant aircraft touched down safely, but due to a suspected hydraulic failure affecting the Nose Wheel Steering, it couldn’t taxi off under its own power. The crew reportedly shut down the engines as a safety precaution.
Gatwick’s main runway was shut for around 30 minutes while the plane underwent a thorough inspection and was towed clear.
Official Line and Quick Response
A Gatwick spokesperson confirmed the emergency landing went down without incident. “A gear fault prevented the aircraft from moving independently, so towing was needed,” they said.
The airport team worked swiftly to clear the runway and resume normal operations.
Sussex News reports the issue may have involved the aircraft’s hydraulic systems, but nothing official has been confirmed yet.
