Man Bailed Over Murder of Teen Lucy McHugh in Southampton
Police have bailed a 24-year-old man arrested for the murder and sexual assault of 13-year-old Lucy McHugh in Southampton. Stephen Nicholson, from Southampton, must stay away from the city as part of his bail conditions. He is living at an address in South Wales but remains in custody on unrelated charges.
No Other Arrests So Far
Authorities say no further arrests have been made in connection to Lucy’s murder. Detectives continue to investigate and appeal to the public to help piece together what happened in the crucial hours before Lucy’s death.
Lucy Found Dead in Woodland
Lucy’s body was discovered in woodland near the Sports Centre early on Thursday 26 July at 7:45am. She had been reported missing after leaving her home on Mansel Road East at 9:30am the day before and failing to return.
Police Urge Public to Help, Avoid Speculation
“This investigation very much continues and we really need the help of the community to understand Lucy’s activity in the 24 hours before her body was found,” said Detective Superintendent Paul Barton.
“We know this is causing great concern locally. Please be assured we are doing all we can to bring whoever is responsible to justice.
“Speculation, especially on social media, hinders the investigation and causes further problems we must manage.
“We will share updates without compromising the case and appreciate your support.”
What Lucy Was Wearing
When Lucy left her home, she wore a distinctive black jacket with white sleeves featuring the band Falling in Reverse logo on the front and “RADKE 01” in red on the back.
