Teen Arrested Over M3 Arson Chaos That Left Drivers Trapped for 11 Hours
A 17-year-old boy from Winchester has been arrested and charged following two terrifying incidents on the M3 motorway last month.
Charges Filed After Fiery Attacks on M3
The teenager faces serious charges, including:
- Two counts of arson with intent to endanger life related to incidents on September 16 and 23
- Two counts of causing danger to road users on the same dates
He was formally charged on September 30 and is currently in custody. He is due to appear at Basingstoke Magistrates’ Court on October 2.
M3 Shutdown Sparks Chaos for Hours
The M3 motorway near Winchester was shut for over 11 hours as bomb disposal experts and specialist police combed the scene. The closure between junctions 9 and 11 caused massive delays, stranding hundreds of drivers.
Police revealed the hazardous substance was thrown from a motorway bridge early on Saturday morning. Tests are ongoing to identify the material. Shockingly, a similar dangerous incident occurred at the same location a week earlier.
Government Probes Handling of Incident Amid Motorist Fury
Frustrated drivers slammed Highways England for poor warning and communication during the motorway closure.
A government investigation has now been launched to examine how the situation was managed – raising questions over emergency response efficiency.
