Hero Cop and Dog Stop Violent Attacker and Possible Kidnap

PC Wayne Mills and his police dog, Cody, have been hailed heroes after bravely tackling a violent man who punched two paramedics and tried to drive off in their ambulance near Oxford. For his guts and quick thinking, PC Mills has scooped the Thames Valley Police Federation Bravery Award.

Paramedics Attacked in Rural Woodstock

The drama unfolded when paramedics called for help after a man assaulted them in a quiet part of Woodstock. One medic was punched, while the other was grabbed during the brutal attack. By the time PC Mills arrived, the suspect had slipped into a nearby property.

Just as PC Mills was checking on the paramedics, the suspect charged at him, throwing a barrage of punches. The paramedics scrambled to get the suspect’s family to safety inside their ambulance.

Dog and Baton Used to Tame Relentless Attacker

PC Mills fought back, first using PAVA spray, then his baton—both barely fazing the aggressive man. When the suspect lunged into the ambulance and tried to drive off, PC Mills pulled his dog from harm, then dragged the man out and wrestled him to the ground. After a tough fight, the attacker was finally cuffed.

“He was so dangerously out of control. He could not be allowed to escape,” said PC Mills. “I was just doing my job. Doing nothing was not an option.”

Bravery Praised by Police Chief

Craig O’Leary, chairman of Thames Valley Police Federation, called the episode “incredibly dangerous.” He said PC Mills had no backup but still stopped a potential kidnapping.

“This man was extremely aggressive, a real threat to the public and emergency services,” O’Leary added. “We are proud of PC Mills for keeping our communities safe.”
