Woman Plunges to Death After Escaping Burning Car on A21
A 35-year-old woman tragically died after fleeing a blazing car and falling 50ft from a nearby bridge in Tonbridge, Kent. The horrific incident happened just after 2.10am, leaving her with severe spinal and internal injuries.
Despite desperate efforts from paramedics and air ambulance crews from Kent, Sussex, and Surrey, she was pronounced dead at the roadside nearly two hours later.
Man Arrested at Scene in Connection with Death
Police arrested a 31-year-old man, believed to be from London, at the scene. He was taken to Tunbridge Wells Police Station for questioning over the fatal incident.
Kent Police said: “We were called at 2.34am to the A21 near the exit for Tonbridge, where a woman with serious injuries was pronounced deceased by South East Coast Ambulance Service. Kent Fire and Rescue also attended to extinguish a car fire at the location.
Detectives are probing a potential link between the car fire and the woman’s tragic fall.
Emergency Shutdown Causes Massive Traffic Chaos
The A21 was shut between Morley’s Roundabout and Tonbridge Bypass, causing rush hour gridlock. Motorists were stuck for over three hours amid rescue and investigation efforts.
Authorities warned drivers heading to Tunbridge Wells Hospital to expect serious delays.
Police Appeal for Witnesses and Dashcam Footage
A Kent Police spokesman urged: “Detectives would like to hear from anyone with information, especially motorists travelling in the area who may have dashcam footage.
