Man Arrested After Weapon Scare Sparks Evacuation in Cossall
Incident Unfolds on Newton’s Lane
Police rushed to Newton’s Lane in Cossall yesterday afternoon (Monday 6 February 2023) following reports of a suspicious incident. A handful of residents were quickly evacuated as a safety precaution and taken to a nearby community centre.
Suspect Caught Carrying Offensive Weapon
At around 5.50pm, officers detained a man nearby on suspicion of carrying an offensive weapon in a public place. The incident was swiftly contained, and residents were allowed back into their homes once the area was deemed safe.
Charged and Bailed
Ashley Bates, 38, from Newton’s Lane, has been formally charged with carrying a dangerous weapon. He was released on bail and is set to appear at nottingham-magistrates-court" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on 16 March 2023.
Police Urge Public to Come Forward
“I’d like to thank residents for their patience and understanding while we worked to resolve the incident safely,” said Temporary Inspector Iain Blackstock of Nottinghamshire Police.
