Wiltshire Police Inspector Sacked for Sexist Behaviour Towards 11 Female Colleagues

Inspector Andy Moreton Fired Over Misogynistic Conduct

Andy Moreton, a seasoned Wiltshire Police inspector since 2001 and former Head of the Roads Policing and Serious Collision Investigation Units, has been dismissed after being found guilty of gross misconduct. The decision came following a tribunal held at Devizes HQ on February 12.

Multiple Claims of Inappropriate Sexual Remarks

The disciplinary panel, led by an independent legally qualified chair, investigated nine allegations against Moreton spanning April 2020 to September 2022. These included offensive sexual comments and behaviour aimed at female officers.

One horrific claim revealed Moreton made lewd sexual remarks about a female officer’s ponytail, adding to a pattern of disrespect and abuse.

Zero Tolerance from Police Chief

Following the hearing, Moreton was dismissed without notice and had been suspended since early 2023. He will now be placed on the College of Policing Barred List, banning him from any future policing roles.

Chief Constable Catherine Roper slammed Moreton’s actions as “disgusting.” She praised the bravery of those who reported him and vowed to cultivate a workplace where disrespectful behaviour is not tolerated.

“We are determined to have a culture which is positive, inclusive and respectful and where everyone feels they can call out inappropriate behavior, be listened to, believed and that action will be taken,” said Roper.

Message to All Police Forces

This high-profile case sends a clear warning: any conduct that undermines policing integrity will be ruthlessly punished. It highlights the ongoing need to foster safe, respectful environments within Britain’s police ranks.
