Series of Blaze Attacks Rock Sussex in 2021
Sussex was hit by a spate of fires at derelict properties throughout 2021. Police and fire crews raced to multiple scenes, sparking an intense investigation into arson in the region.
Multiple Derelict Buildings Ignite
- June 26: At 10.27pm, West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service called police to a large fire at a derelict building in Broadwater Lane, Horsham.
- July 8: At 3.39am, East Sussex Fire and Rescue alerted police to a massive blaze at a derelict property in Wivelsfield Green, with eight fire engines battling the flames.
- August 29: At 7.23am, police were contacted regarding smoke spreading onto the A26 from a fire reported by East Sussex.
Burning Vauxhall Corsa Linked to Arson Charges
On November 7 at 4.04am, police responded after East Sussex Fire and Rescue reported a silver Vauxhall Corsa on fire on Lewes Road. The incident helped crack open the case.
Three Arrested and Charged Over Arson
Three men have been charged:
- Joshua Brinkley, 19, of Southfield, Polegate – seven counts of arson.
- Connor Luck, 21, of Balls Green, Withyham – two counts of arson.
- A third suspect, known only as 123 – one arson count.
All three are summoned to Brighton Magistrates’ Court on Thursday 27 April.
