PC Jack Oliver Cleared After Fare Dodging Allegations

A two-day police misconduct hearing has cleared PC Jack Oliver of dishonesty claims tied to a fare evasion incident at Norbury British Rail Station.

Allegations Following Norbury Station Incident

On 1st August 2022, PC Oliver was stopped by British Transport Police (BTP) who accused him of dodging a fare using his police-issued Oyster card at a station outside Transport for London’s jurisdiction. The Metropolitan Police misconduct panel examined the case in detail on 8th and 9th April 2024 at Sutton Police Station.

Evidence Examined, Dishonesty Not Proven

The panel reviewed BTP bodycam footage and PC Oliver’s testimony. While noting his mistakes — such as rushing through the barriers and not carefully reviewing the paperwork — the panel found no clear proof of dishonesty “on the balance of probabilities.” Their verdict: no misconduct or gross misconduct had occurred.

Reflective Practice Recommended

Instead of punishment, the panel advised PC Oliver to undergo a Reflective Practice Review to sharpen his professional conduct moving forward.

“The hearing’s outcome highlights the need for careful evidence consideration and the highest professional standards within the police force,” the panel stated.
