Suss Sussex Cop Slapped with Final Warning Over Shocking Misconduct
A Sussex police sergeant has been handed a final written warning after breaching professional standards on multiple fronts.
Sgt Rob Adams’ Serious Missteps
37-year-old Sgt Rob Adams, based in Hastings, faced a misconduct hearing at Sussex Police HQ in Lewes on December 3-4. He was accused of sending explicit and pornographic material to colleagues and stirring up inappropriate conversations. The panel found he:
- Sent explicit or pornographic content to co-workers
- Instigated or joined in sexual chats
- Engaged in derogatory remarks about colleagues
- Commented on female colleagues’ physical appearance
- Superimposed a colleague’s photo onto a naked woman’s image
Force Cracks Down on Unprofessional Behaviour
The misconduct panel, led by an independent, legally qualified chair, ruled the claims were proven and gave Adams the final written warning.
Chief Superintendent Lisa Bell, head of professional standards, said: “Police officers must behave in a manner that does not discredit the police service or undermine public confidence, whether on or off duty. All staff are aware of appropriate professional boundaries and the serious consequences of any abuses of position.”
“Sergeant Adams’s actions fell far short of these boundaries, and the panel has made it clear such indiscretions are unacceptable and will be punished.”
This case sends a stark message: unprofessional conduct among officers will not be tolerated in Sussex Police.
