Sussex Sergeant Slapped with Final Warning Over Shocking Misconduct
A Sussex police sergeant has narrowly avoided dismissal after being caught sending explicit material and making inappropriate remarks about colleagues.
Sgt Rob Adams Faces Serious Allegations
Sgt Rob Adams, 37, based in Hastings, was grilled over two days at Sussex Police HQ in Lewes (December 3-4). The misconduct hearing uncovered multiple breaches of professional standards, including:
- Sending explicit or pornographic material to colleagues
- Starting or joining sexual conversations at work
- Engaging in derogatory talk about fellow officers
- Making disparaging comments about female colleagues’ appearance
- Superimposing a colleague’s photo onto a naked woman’s image
Force Hits Back with Final Written Warning
The hearing panel, led by an independent legal chair, found all allegations proven. Sgt Adams was handed a final written warning but remains on the force.
“Police officers must behave in a manner that does not discredit the police service or undermine public confidence, whether on or off duty,” stated Chief Superintendent Lisa Bell, head of professional standards.
“All staff are aware of appropriate professional boundaries and the serious consequences of any abuses of position. Sergeant Adams’s actions fell far short of these boundaries and the panel has made it clear such indiscretions are unacceptable and will be punished.”
