Warning issued after dangerous ecstasy tabs send four Isle of Wight partygoers to hospital
Police on the Isle of Wight are sounding the alarm over a toxic batch of ecstasy tablets linked to at least four hospitalisations. An 18-year-old man has been arrested and charged with drug supply following the incident.
Deadly tablets cause terrifying reactions
The suspicious pills reportedly make users behave like they’re drunk, become aggressive, terrified, and even lose consciousness. Four victims are currently in hospital, with one in a serious condition.
Authorities warn taking these rogue tablets could be life-threatening.
Where and when were the tablets sold?
It’s believed that three of those affected bought the drugs from inside Yates bar on High Street, Newport, either on Friday, July 1 or Saturday, July 2. Buyers were told they were ecstasy.
Yates is cooperating fully with police in the ongoing investigation.
Police urge caution – hand in suspicious pills
Officers urge anyone who recently bought ecstasy tablets to avoid taking them and to hand them over to police. The force promises that anyone handing in pills responsibly will not face prosecution for possession.
A spokesman from Isle of Wight NHS Trust said: “These four individuals have had a very lucky escape. It will be several weeks before we know if they make a full recovery.”
St Mary’s Hospital had to open an extra treatment area to cope with the cases, leading to cancelled surgeries on Saturday morning.
