Brutal Prison Murder Shocks HMP Maidstone
Inmate Kills Cellmate in Savage Attack
A vicious murder has erupted behind bars at HMP Maidstone. Sasan Rabat, 26, was found guilty of fatally stabbing fellow prisoner Stefan Adi, 24, during a ferocious assault in their cell on 9 December 2021.
Prison staff discovered Rabat calmly sitting on his bed while Adi’s bloodied body was hidden under blankets, concealed by a locker and table. Mr Adi suffered multiple throat punctures and brutal head injuries inflicted with a broken chair and shattered ceramic toilet lid found at the scene — both used as weapons.
Self-Defence Claim Falls Flat
Rabat alleged he acted in self-defence, claiming Adi had threatened him with a razor blade after entering his cell. But the jury wasn’t convinced. At Maidstone Crown Court, Rabat admitted the killing but pleaded diminished responsibility.
On Friday 13 September 2024, jurors unanimously convicted Rabat of murder. Sentencing will be scheduled at a later date.
Detective Hits Out at ‘Indescribable Brutality’
Detective Inspector Ross Gurden, leading the probe, condemned the attack as one of “indescribable brutality.” He said: “Rabat beat his victim with such ferocity that he stood no chance of surviving. Rabat has shown no remorse for his horrific actions, and our thoughts remain with Mr Adi’s family as they continue to cope with their tragic loss.”
