Shoplifting Spree Ends as Eastbourne Thief Caught
Adam Summerford, 33, a drifter with no fixed address, has been nailed for a series of shopliftings across Eastbourne. The Brighton Magistrates’ Court heard the full story on November 30.
14 Thefts in Just Over a Month
Between October 23 and November 26, Summerford targeted multiple well-known stores — The Range, Sports Direct, Co-op, and Sainsbury’s. His loot included everything from a vacuum cleaner and clothes to booze and food.
Caught on CCTV and Busted
Thanks to sharp-eyed shop staff and dedicated police work, CCTV footage clearly showed Summerford in action. He was arrested on November 28 and promptly locked up.
Twisted Justice: Suspended Sentence & Rehab
Despite the long list of offences, Summerford was handed a 12-week custodial sentence suspended for 18 months. On top of that, he must join a drug rehab programme.
PC Christopher Holmes, Eastbourne Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “Adam Summerford is a prolific offender and was identified thanks to the collaboration between Sussex Police, businesses and our community partners.”
“This teamwork is vital in catching repeat offenders who not only cause financial damage but also intimidate shop workers. We will continue protecting businesses and bringing criminals to justice.”
