Ex-Crime Lecturer Sentenced to 12 Years for Rape
From Role Model to Rapist
Nadeem Afzal, 52, once lectured children on steering clear of crime. But now, the man who claimed to be “reformed” has been slammed with a 12-year jail term for raping a woman twice.
Afzal, from Lewisham Park in Hither Green, had a criminal past including violence and drug importation back in the 90s and early 2000s. Since 2006, he painted himself as a changed man, dedicating his time to teaching youngsters to avoid a life of crime.
Dark Secrets Exposed at Woolwich Crown Court
His “reformed” image crumbled last September when police arrested him over rape allegations. Despite denial, Afzal was convicted at Woolwich Crown Court. The prosecution played chilling audio tapes of Afzal threatening to kill the victim.
“He threatened to kill the woman, showing the terrifying control he tried to exert,” court heard.
Warning for Trusting Reformed Offenders
Afzal’s conviction is a stark wake-up call. His efforts to educate youth now overshadowed by his brutal crimes, spotlighting the challenges of truly reforming offenders. The Met Police urge anyone suffering similar abuse to come forward, promising full support and justice.
His case is a reminder: vetting must be rigorous, even for those who claim to have turned their lives around.
