Parcel Thefts on the Rise in Canterbury

Since November, Kent Police have logged six parcel thefts around Canterbury. Thieves are striking when victims aren’t looking, snatching parcels straight off doorsteps.

The Dirty Details: Where and When

  • 11 November: Down Road – Parcel marked delivered with photo but mysteriously vanished.
  • 18 November: Two thefts reported – one in Bingly Court, the other in Long Meadow Way. Parcels left at properties but gone when owners went to collect.
  • 22 November: Westwood Drive – Parcels stolen before owner could retrieve them.
  • 26 November: Kilndown Gardens – Parcel stolen right outside the house.
  • 4 December: Kent Avenue – Parcel taken before victim had a chance to grab it.

Kent Police Issue Warning and Safety Tips

Inspector Guy Thompson from Canterbury Community Safety Unit responded: “Kent Police investigates all theft reports and is determined to bring culprits to justice.”

“While postal thefts are still very rare compared to the number of households, we’re not taking any chances.”

How to Keep Your Parcels Safe

  • Track your deliveries and make sure someone is home, or arrange for a trusted neighbour or family member to receive parcels.
  • Install security measures like CCTV, video doorbells or security lights to scare off thieves and alert you to visitors.
  • Use off-site lockers in busy, secure locations – thieves tend to avoid these.

Stay sharp, Canterbury! Don’t let porch pirates ruin your festive season.
