Armed Supermarket Robbers Caught After High-Speed Chase

New CCTV footage reveals the chilling moment when two armed robbers struck a One Stop supermarket in Sutton Coldfield — and how they were hunted down and jailed.

Knife-Wielding Thief Threatens Staff

Karl Jarvis fiercely brandished a knife at the tills, demanding cash while threatening: “Give me the money, I’m gonna punch her in the face.” Duane Jackson stood guard by the door, screwdriver in hand, shouting: “Punch her in the face.” The pair targeted three terrified staff behind the counter just after 10pm on December 5 last year.

Getaway in Stolen Ford Fiesta

As the alarm blared, the robbers fled with cash in a stolen black Ford Fiesta. A quick-thinking member of the public noted the car’s registration as it sped away from Springfield Road. Police launched a hunt, spotting the vehicle three hours later on Chester Road, Erdington.

Police Chase Ends in Crash and Arrests

The robbers refused to stop, racing through red lights in a dangerous chase by Central Motorway Police Group (CMPG) officers. The Fiesta smashed into a wall, bringing the pursuit to a dramatic halt. Jackson, 29, was caught in the driver’s seat. Jarvis, 30, was nabbed nearby after a foot chase.

Justice Served

  • Jackson, of Ashcombe Gardens, Erdington, was charged with robbery and dangerous driving.
  • Jarvis, from Severn Road, Walsall, faced charges of robbery and possession of a knife.

At Birmingham Crown Court on November 9, Jarvis was jailed for four years. Jackson received a three-year-and-10-month sentence.

“This was an awful ordeal for the staff on duty… confronted with two armed men threatening them with violence,” said Det Sgt Tom Lyons, Force CID. “Thanks to the member of the public who noted the registration, we located the robbers quickly. CMPG officers swiftly got the men in custody.”
