Coventry Killer Anthony Russell Jailed for Life Over Brutal Rampage
Anthony Russell, 39, from Riley Square, Coventry, has been handed a whole life order at Warwick Crown Court today. The relentless violence he unleashed over seven days shocked the community.
Seven Days of Terror Ending in Triple Murder
Between 21 and 30 October 2020, Russell went on a horrific spree. He murdered three people: Nicole McGregor, David Williams, and Julie Williams. Tragically, Nicole was five months pregnant when Russell raped and killed her.
His rampage didn’t stop there. Russell also robbed three other individuals, brutally attacking one victim and leaving them with life-altering injuries.
Convicted Despite Denial of Ruthless Rape
Russell admitted to the triple murders, robberies, and grievous bodily harm but denied raping Nicole McGregor. The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) pursued the rape charge. On 10 March 2022, a jury found him guilty of rape after a trial.
“While we may never know the exact motive behind the first murder and what prompted Anthony Russell’s killing spree, we know that all the attacks were deliberate, cold-hearted and designed to achieve his own ends,” said CPS lawyer Sati Ruck. “He eventually admitted the triple murder but continued to deny he raped Nicole McGregor, forcing Miss McGregor’s family to relive the tragic circumstances at trial. The strength of the evidence led to his conviction, and he will now serve a whole life order for his monstrous crimes.
