Ex-Sainsbury’s Worker Charged Over Late-Night Cowes Stabbing
Drama unfolded in Cowes just after midnight on Tuesday, 24 July, when an 18-year-old man was stabbed twice in the back near Love Lane and Windmill Close. Police swooped on the scene after receiving reports of the serious assault.
Victim in Hospital – Injuries Not Life-Threatening
The victim, a local Cowes resident, was rushed to St Mary’s Hospital. Thankfully, medics have confirmed his injuries are not life-threatening, though he remains under care.
Former Sainsbury’s Worker Macauley Watterston Charged
Police arrested and charged 23-year-old Macauley Watterston, a former Sainsbury’s employee from Newport’s Laundry Lane. He faces a serious charge of causing grievous bodily harm with intent and is due in Isle of Wight Magistrates’ Court on Friday, 27 July.
Three Others Arrested but Released
- A 23-year-old man from Carisbrooke was arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm but released without charge. He remains under investigation.
- A 23-year-old Newport man was cuffed for GBH and cannabis possession but also released without charge; his case is ongoing.
- A 23-year-old man with no fixed address faced the same GBH suspicion, released without charge but still under probe.
