Southampton Fan Banned for Three Years After Derby Pitch Invasion

A Southampton season ticket holder has been slapped with a harsh three-year ban after crashing the pitch during last month’s fiery derby clash against Portsmouth.

Daniel Small’s Shocking Derby Blunder

Daniel Small, 35, caused chaos at St Mary’s Stadium when he leapt over advertising boards from the Kingsland Stand, halting play dead in its tracks.

Before storming the pitch, Small—a Wilman Way local—threw a lighter during a Portsmouth throw-in, aiming at winger Josh Murphy. Security swiftly identified and targeted Small as the troublemaker.

Court Hands Down Tough Sentence

Small pleaded guilty at Southampton Magistrates Court to two charges: throwing a missile and unlawfully entering the playing area. He was fined £445 and given a tough three-year Football Banning Order.

Assistant Chief Constable Tony Rowlinson, who led policing at the game, condemned Small’s antics:

“We were clear ahead of this game that disruption would not be tolerated but sadly this so-called fan ignored those warnings.”

“Thanks to the swift actions of our officers and the St Mary’s security team, he is now facing the consequences of his foolish actions that threatened to ruin the game for everyone.”

“That brief pitch invasion has resulted in a much lengthier court appearance, a criminal record, and a banning order stopping him from watching his team for three years.”

“I hope this sends a message loud and clear: just because you are surrounded by thousands doesn’t mean you can get away with crime.”

“We work closely with clubs, using multiple tactics to make sure anyone causing disruption or threatening safety is dealt with swiftly.”

Swift Justice After Derby Drama

The incident unfolded in the 38th minute, just moments after security tried to eject Small for the lighter-throwing. Stewards hauled him off the pitch, but the damage was done.

Small’s heavy-handed ban sends a warning: fans must respect matchday safety or face severe consequences.
