Father and Stepmother Jailed for Brutal Murder of 10-Year-Old Sara Sharif

The shocking murder of 10-year-old Sara Sharif has rocked the nation. At the Old Bailey, her father Urfan Sharif, 42, and stepmother Beinash Batool, 30, were sentenced to life in prison for her murder following a harrowing 10-week trial. Sara’s uncle, Faisal Malik, 29, was also convicted for causing or allowing her death.

Horrific Abuse Uncovered

Details revealed the sickening abuse Sara endured. She was beaten with a cricket bat, burnt with an iron, and scalded with boiling liquid. Evidence showed fractures, bruises, and burns consistent with long-term torture.

Judge Slams “Unimaginable Cruelty”

During sentencing, Mr Justice Cavanagh condemned the trio’s “unimaginable cruelty” and “abhorrent treatment” of the defenceless child. Urfan Sharif and Beinash Batool received life sentences with minimum terms set before parole consideration. Faisal Malik was handed a significant prison term for failing to protect Sara.

Sara’s Final Days and Family’s Pain

Sara was found dead at her home in Woking, Surrey on 10 August 2023 after her father called emergency services then fled with the others to Pakistan.

“She is now an angel looking down on us from heaven, no longer experiencing violence,” said Sara’s grieving mother, Olga Sharif, calling the convicted “sadists, cowards, and executioners.”

Olga described Sara as “a beautiful girl who deserved to be loved and safe.”

Child Protection Failures Under Spotlight

The terrible case has sparked outrage over child protection. Sara had been withdrawn from school by her parents for home education – a move now widely criticised amid calls for stricter government controls.

The Children’s Commissioner for England demands a mandatory home education register to stop vulnerable children slipping through the cracks.

Police Speak Out

Detective Chief Inspector Craig Emmerson, leading the investigation, described the murder as:

“A shocking and horrific case of child abuse that has appalled communities both here and abroad.”

He added: “Sara’s life was cruelly cut short by unspeakable violence at the hands of those who should have cared for her.”

Calls for Justice and Reform

Public fury grows over how such extreme abuse went undetected for so long. The case has ignited demands for justice reform and better child safeguarding measures.

Sara’s family and supporters hope her tragic death will force vital changes to protect vulnerable children across the UK.
