Repeat Sex Offender Derek Lamond Jailed for 12 Years
Derek Lamond, 59, from Dunfermline, Fife, has been locked up for 12 years after a brutal spree of abuse against two young girls. His shocking crimes spanned more than 20 years, from 1995 to 2017, and happened across various locations in Fife – including inside cars.
Judge Condemns ‘Appalling and Predatory’ Behaviour
At Edinburgh High Court, Lord Renucci blasted Lamond’s “appalling and predatory behaviour,” branding him a “significant” risk to the public. Lamond subjected one victim to horrific rape, while the other endured an attempted rape among a string of sexual offences.
Despite Lamond’s denials and claims the victims lied for money, a jury found him guilty of all 10 charges – including rape, attempted rape, sexual assault, and indecent conduct. Nine charges were unanimous, with a majority verdict on the last.
Harrowing Abuse from a Young Age
Lamond’s abuse started when the first victim was just four years old. He repeatedly molested her over several years, supplying alcohol and cigarettes before finally raping her between ages seven and ten. The second girl, targeted from age seven, suffered years of abuse including attempted rape, also involving alcohol and cigarettes.
During police interviews, Lamond denied all allegations, but the evidence painted a damning picture of prolonged predation.
Justice Served Despite Defence Plea
Defence lawyer John Brannigan urged leniency, noting Lamond cared for an elderly aunt and prioritised family over himself. But Lord Renucci made it clear: “There is no alternative” to a long prison stretch given the severity of the crimes.
Lamond will serve 12 years, followed by three years supervised release. He’s also on the Sex Offenders Register for life.
Police Praise Victims’ Bravery
“Derek Lamond will now face the consequences of his appalling and predatory behaviour,” said Det Con Emma Moyes from Police Scotland. “We thank the victims for their bravery and determination throughout the investigation.”
The guilty verdict closes a painful chapter for Lamond’s victims, whose courage has been commended by both court and police alike.
