Southampton Predator Locked Up for Three Years After Daylight Assaults
Man Harasses and Assaults Women in Broad Daylight
Sohail Amiri, 30, terrorised women in Southampton, making unwanted advances and forcing assaults in public places. Despite their protests, he pushed for kisses and attacked three women, stalking them in the early hours and on busy streets.
Chilling Attacks on Southampton Women
On November 25 last year, Amiri targeted a lone woman on Upper Shaftesbury Avenue, Portswood. He followed her, cooing “beautiful” and begging for “just one kiss.” When she said no, he grabbed her wrist and tried to force himself on her. Luckily, she fought off the assault and escaped.
Two months earlier, on September 23, Amiri made similar moves on a woman walking down Westwood Road, Bevois. Despite her ignoring his demands for a kiss, he pushed her and persisted. A colleague later came forward with a matching story of being shoved and hassled by the same man.
Police Use CCTV and DNA to Nail Amiri
Southampton police cracked the case using CCTV footage and tracked Amiri’s movements. DNA from saliva found at the scenes matched the 30-year-old. His mobile phone confirmed he was present during the attacks, sealing his fate.
Three Years Behind Bars and a Ten-Year Ban
Amiri pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual assault, one attempted sexual assault, and illegally entering the UK. At Southampton Crown Court, Judge Nicholas Rowland handed down a three-year prison sentence. The court also imposed a 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order to protect the public from further danger.
