Operation Filton: From Stop Check to Major Crime Takedown
What began with a routine police stop on a suspicious vehicle exploded into a high-stakes investigation. Officers discovered a kidnap victim fleeing from the vehicle and unearthed a 9mm Glock handgun.
Detectives then raided portacabins at a local storage unit. Inside, they found a homemade pill factory, huge quantities of heroin, bulking agents, and a staggering 3.5 million Etizolam tablets – a Class C drug dangerously prevalent on the streets, valued at up to £6.8 million.
Police Praise Dedicated Team for Breakthrough
Detective Sergeant Lyndsey Dale, Deputy Senior Investigating Officer for Operation Filton, said: “This investigation was long and complex, run by a small but dedicated Cleveland Police team. From a simple vehicle stop, we safeguarded a kidnap victim, removed over £3 million worth of drugs, and secured a dangerous firearm that could’ve devastated our communities.”
“This team dismantled a national drugs conspiracy tied to organised crime, focused on protecting the public and preventing violence in Cleveland. They deserve full credit for their hard work.”
Detective Inspector Gez Wraith added: “The distribution of controlled drugs and criminal use of firearms won’t be tolerated. This case highlights our commitment to tackling serious organised crime at a national level. Thanks to the Crown Prosecution Service, partner agencies, and the public for their help.”
The sentences send a clear message: Cleveland Police are relentless in cracking down on kidnap, gun crime, and drug mafias terrorising communities.
