Miracle Baby Arlo Dies After Shocking Head Injury

Arlo Breslin was just three months old when tragedy struck. The “miracle baby” suffered a catastrophic head injury that would cost him his life.

Uncle James Scott in Care When Injury Happened

On the morning of June 29, 2018, Arlo’s uncle, James Scott, was looking after him. Arlo’s mother had left for the school run with her three older children, leaving Arlo in Scott’s care while his father went to work.

Around an hour later, she returned to find Scott screaming her name and holding Arlo—who was unresponsive. Paramedics rushed the baby to Birmingham Children’s Hospital, but he tragically died two days later.

Shaken Baby Syndrome Triggers Murder Charge

A post-mortem revealed Arlo died from a catastrophic head injury due to non-accidental shaking. Scott was arrested and charged with murder after a complex investigation.

Throughout the trial at Warwick Crown Court, Scott denied shaking Arlo. He claimed the baby was asleep but suddenly started convulsing.

However, the jury found Scott not guilty of murder but guilty of manslaughter. Sentencing is set for Monday.

Family Mourns Their ‘Special Baby Boy’

“Our special baby boy, our warrior. Arlo is our miracle baby who we love very, very much. We will never ever forget you sweetheart. Sleep tight our angel. Keep shining down on us all.”

Detective Inspector Michelle Allen said: “Little Arlo was a healthy and happy baby dearly loved by his family, who are now utterly heartbroken. No parent expects to lose a child, especially at the hands of a trusted family member.

“I hope the verdict gives the family some comfort as they try to come to terms with this devastating loss. Our thoughts remain with them.”
