Teen Held Over Taylor Swift Dance Class Massacre Named
Axel Rudakubana, 17, has been charged with the brutal stabbing spree at a Taylor Swift-themed dance class in Southport. The teenager, days shy of his 18th birthday, stabbed three young girls to death and injured ten others in a chilling attack on July 29.
Horrific Details Emerge
Rudakubana allegedly murdered Bebe King, six, Elsie Dot Stancombe, seven, and Alice Dasilva Aguiar, nine. Eight other children, dance teacher Leanne Lucas, 35, and businessman John Hayes also suffered injuries. Born in Cardiff to Rwandan parents, Rudakubana moved to Lancashire’s village of Banks in 2013.
Until now, his identity was protected due to his age, but a court ruling has lifted the ban amid raging misinformation and public demand for clarity. Judge Andrew Menary KC said withholding the name allowed false rumours to flourish and fuel unrest.
Chaos and Riots Follow Fake News
In the wake of the attack, far-right mobs rioted in Southport and other UK cities after fake news falsely claimed Rudakubana arrived in the UK by boat last year and was on an MI6 watch list. Russian state media spread these lies, provoking violent clashes that left dozens of police officers injured and emergency vehicles ablaze.
Judge Menary said: “Continuing to prevent full reporting has the disadvantage of allowing others to spread misinformation in a vacuum.”
At court, Rudakubana hid his face behind a grey sweatshirt and rocked back and forth during the 55-minute hearing. A man shouting outside had to be restrained by police. A provisional trial date has been set for January 20 at Liverpool Crown Court. Rudakubana remains in youth detention until the next hearing on October 25.
Community in Shock, Leaders Condemn Disorder
- Floral tributes, balloons, and soft toys now decorate the crime scene on Hart Street, Southport.
- The local community is devastated and rallies for justice for the murdered children.
- Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer condemned the rioters for hijacking a victims’ vigil, promising they’ll “feel the full force of the law.”
- Home Secretary Yvette Cooper described the attacks as “violent thuggery” and “appalling.”
- Police and counter-terror teams continue to investigate, emphasising the case is still “very much live.”
Despite the chaos elsewhere, seaside towns like Herne Bay remained calm, with residents joining forces to clean up and restore order.
The nation now awaits justice for the innocent lives tragically cut short and the scars left on countless others by this horrifying massacre.
