Crash Killer Jailed After Deadly Newcastle Smash
Steven Wallace, 22, has been sentenced to seven years and eight months in prison for causing the death of 19-year-old Joe Scott in a shocking crash last year.
Deadly Crash at Bus Stop
The tragedy unfolded on Sunday, October 15, when Wallace sped through a 30mph zone at nearly 50mph in his BMW. He slammed into a bus stop on West Denton Way, where Joe Scott and others were waiting. Scott suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
High on Drugs and Running from Scene
Wallace, from Lonnen Avenue, Newcastle, was found to be five times over the legal drug limit. He pleaded guilty at Newcastle Crown Court to multiple offences, including death by dangerous driving, failing to stop after the crash, driving while drugged, and no insurance.
“Wallace’s reckless actions cost a young life and caused serious injury to others,” a court spokesperson said.
Justice Served
At Newcastle Crown Court, Wallace admitted all charges against him in July. Today, the judge handed down a hefty prison sentence of seven years and eight months, sending a clear message about drug-driving and street racing.
