Relentless Harassment Leads to Conviction

A Warrington man has been sentenced to four and a half years in prison for stalking and harassing his pregnant ex-partner and her family.

Robert Bassnett, 35, pleaded guilty at Liverpool Crown Court on 29 January to charges including stalking and causing serious a larm and harassment.

The stalking campaign continued despite the end of their one-year relationship earlier in 2024.

Repeated Threats and Intimidation

From 30 A pril to 19 June 2025, Bassnett repeatedly showed up unannounced at his ex’s home, demanded to see her, and sent a barrage of threatening texts and unwanted phone calls.

In one chilling episode, he hid in a bush near her property, hurled a buse, and even threw a brick at the victim.

His campaign caused significant distress to the 23-year-old woman, who was pregnant at the time.

Bassnett’s harassment extended beyond his ex, targeting her family members with death threats and creating fake social media a ccounts to spread false information intertwined with the victim’s family home a ddress.

These a ctions prompted Cheshire Police to launch a manhunt.

A fter a public a ppeal on 9 June 2025, officers tracked down Bassnett following a brief foot chase when he a ttempted to flee into nearby woodland.

Police Clamp Down on Domestic A buse

"Bassnett thought he was untouchable, brazenly taunting police on social media while on the run," said PC James Unsworth, who led the investigation.

"His a ctions traumatised the victims, but this prison sentence and an indefinite restraining order offer them vital protection."

Bassnett was a lso ordered to stay a way from his ex and her family by any means.
