A Sudanese man, Alnour Mohamed Ali, 27, faces charges following the death of four migrants in a desperate attempt to cross the English Channel. The victims—two men and two women—were lost to strong currents near Calais after trying to board a dinghy.
Attempt to Cross Channel Ends in Disaster
The tragedy struck early Thursday morning at Equihen-Plage, south of Boulogne-sur-Mer. Around 7am local time, the group attempted to set sail for Britain but was swept away by fierce currents just as they launched their dinghy.
Man Charged with Endangering Lives at Sea
The National Crime Agency confirmed Ali allegedly piloted the boat from France towards the UK and has been charged with endangering others during a sea journey. He is due to appear at Folkestone Magistrates’ Court this Saturday. This fatal incident highlights the ongoing peril faced by migrants risking the Channel crossing.
