Man Charged After Police Officer Attacked in Canterbury
Ashley Munchin, 37, has appeared in court charged with attacking a police officer during a shocking incident in Canterbury last week. The suspect was arrested following a violent altercation on Wincheap on the evening of Thursday, 29 August 2024.

Officers quickly identified and detained Munchin nearby. During the arrest, the suspect allegedly assaulted a police officer.
Serious Charges Unveiled
- Munchin, who has no fixed address, faces charges of attempting to wound a police officer with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
- He is also accused of assaulting the member of the public involved and causing criminal damage to the man’s ear pods.
Next Court Appearance and Safety Concerns
Munchin appeared at Folkestone Magistrates’ Court on Saturday, 31 August, where he was remanded in custody. He is due to appear at Canterbury Crown Court on Monday, 30 September.
The attack has sparked fresh concerns over the safety of police officers and the public while on duty. Kent Police have yet to release details on the condition of the injured officer.
