Man Arrested After Dramatic Canterbury Burglary Chase
A man has been arrested following a suspected burglary at a community centre in Canterbury, Kent Police confirmed. The incident unfolded during the early hours of Thursday morning, sparking a tense foot chase through woodland and residential gardens.
Alarm Raises the Alarm at Community Centre
Officers rushed to Tenterden Drive shortly after 5.22am on Thursday, 24 July, after an intruder alarm went off at the Canterbury community centre. On arrival, police found a damaged door and spotted a man nearby who is believed to be connected to the break-in.
Police Assault and High-Speed Foot Chase
When approached by officers, the suspect assaulted one of them before fleeing on foot. The resulting pursuit saw police run through woodland, fences, and gardens, before finally catching the man hiding in a bush. He was detained without further incident.
Stolen Goods Recovered and Arrest Made
- Cash, coins, and bottles of alcohol allegedly stolen during the burglary were recovered at the scene.
- A 41-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of burglary and assaulting an emergency worker.
- The suspect has been bailed pending further investigations.
- The assaulted officer did not require hospital treatment and is making a full recovery.
