Teen Held Over Newsagent Robbery Attempt in Chatham

A 17-year-old boy has been charged after threatening staff with a fake gun during a botched robbery at a Chatham newsagent.

Imitation Gun Used in Evening Raid

The incident unfolded at around 8.30pm on Monday 20 May at the Magpie Hall Road store. The masked teen demanded goods but fled when staff resisted. No one was hurt, and nothing was stolen, though the shop window was smashed in the scuffle.

Swift Arrest and Charges

Kent Police quickly tracked down the suspect, arresting him the next evening, Tuesday 21 May. The teen now faces charges of attempted robbery, possession of an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear, and criminal damage.

Remanded in Custody

The accused was remanded in custody and appeared at Medway Magistrates’ Court on Thursday 23 May. He was held pending a further hearing at Medway Youth Court on Tuesday 28 May.
