Four men behind notorious ‘Ginge’ county drugs line face nearly 26 years behind bars after exploiting vulnerable victims with brutal, weapon-fuelled violence, a judge ruled.

Bedfordshire Drugs Gang’s Brutal Reign of Terror

The gang terrorised Bedford flats by cuckooing—taking over vulnerable people’s homes to run their drugs operation. In March 2020, two gang members unleashed savage attacks on three residents after £300 of cocaine vanished.

Shamadul Islam and Mohammed Ali forced an antique shotgun into a victim’s mouth, bashed another over the head with a machete, and made victims strip naked in a bid to find the missing drugs. One victim was even marched to a cash point to cough up over £200 for the gang.

“The gang acted aggressively and violently to occupiers in their own home – instilling terror so deep they complied out of fear,” Judge Steven Evans said.

He described the ordeal as “false imprisonment” and “torture,” labelling the victims as “vulnerable and terrified.”

Caught on CCTV: Armed Gang Caught Trying Another Break-In

The day after the attack, CCTV captured the gang, armed and dangerous, attempting to break into another Bedford flat to retrieve drugs. Police swooped, arresting five gang members and seizing a BB gun, machete, axe, mallet, and £6,000 in cash from Islam’s bedroom.

Islam, 23, was handed 8 years and 8 months for multiple offences including false imprisonment, blackmail, and assault. Ali, 22, was sentenced to nine years plus three more on licence for violent crimes and drug dealing.

Other key gang players Amirul Hussain (4 years) and Naimour Ahmed (4 years) also received prison terms. Two younger runners got two-year youth community orders.

Police Warn Communities to Watch for ‘Cuckooing’

Detective Constable Lindsey Cook, praised for leading the investigation, warned of the brutal reality of county lines drug gangs.

“This gang’s actions were described as torture and humiliation. Organised crime uses extreme violence and targets the vulnerable—often overlooked victims suffering addiction or poor mental health.”

She urged locals to spot signs of cuckooing and protect vulnerable neighbours.

Spot the Signs of Cuckooing

  • Unusual numbers of strangers entering a property or lots of cars and bikes outside.
  • Anti-social behaviour and rubbish littering the area.
  • People coming and going at odd hours.
  • Damaged doors or doors left propped open.
  • Unknown individuals buzzing buildings for entry.
  • Residents disappearing or appearing anxious, distracted, or injured.
  • Little to no contact with family or support services.
  • Residents refusing to answer their doors.
  • Phone lines disconnected.

Bedfordshire Police continue their crackdown on this violent gang, appealing for community vigilance to protect the vulnerable and stop the spread of organised crime.
