Top Cop Scott Chilton Set to Take Charge of Hampshire and Isle of Wight Police
Scott Chilton, the current Chief Constable of Dorset Police, is the frontrunner to become the new Chief Constable of Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary. He’s held his Dorset post since July 2021 but is now set for a big move.
Donna Jones Backs Chilton as Next Top Cop
Police and Crime Commissioner Donna Jones said: “After a comprehensive selection process, I am delighted to announce Scott Chilton as my preferred candidate to be appointed as the next Chief Constable of Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary.”
Jones praised Chilton’s impressive career, adding: “Scott started his policing career in Hampshire, rising through the ranks to Assistant Chief Constable. He then served as Deputy Chief Constable at Dorset Police before becoming Chief Constable in July 2021. He is highly experienced, and I look forward to working with him to deliver on our Police and Crime Plan and ensure outstanding service to the public.”
Confirmation Hearing Set for November 21
The appointment is not official yet. Chilton’s selection will be reviewed at a confirmation hearing held by the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Police and Crime Panel. The panel is scheduled to meet on November 21 to make a final decision.

Succession After Olivia Pinkney’s Retirement Announcement
The announcement follows Chief Constable Olivia Pinkney’s decision in September to retire from policing in spring 2023, leaving big shoes to fill.
