£100k SNP Motorhome Seized by Police Amid Finance Row
The SNP has hit the headlines after police seized a £100,000 motorhome linked to the party. The vehicle was discovered last week alongside other items following complaints about the SNP’s finances. The bash-hit “campaign battle bus” was meant to hit the road for the 2021 Holyrood election but never saw action thanks to Covid lockdowns.
SNP leader Humza Yousaf was left stunned, only learning about the pricey purchase when shown a police warrant to take the vehicle. This latest twist raises fresh questions over the party’s cash handling.
No Auditors and Financial Chaos
The party’s transparency woes deepen. The SNP has been operating without auditors since September after Johnston Carmichael quit following a client review. Yousaf insists he was in the dark about the missing auditors until he took charge and has promised to appoint new ones ASAP.
But with no financial watchdogs on board and a pricey motorhome purchase in the mix, doubts about the SNP’s money management are mounting.
Police Probe £600k Donation Spend
The SNP’s finances are under police investigation over concerns about spending more than £600,000 in activist donations. Yousaf admitted the public’s “very reasonable” questions about transparency must be answered and vowed to push for greater financial openness.
Legal Storm Over Gender Recognition Laws
The SNP is also locked in a fierce legal battle with the UK government over gender recognition reforms. The Scottish government plans to challenge the UK’s block on reforms passed by Holyrood. But former Supreme Court judge Lord Sumption has slammed the SNP’s position as “weak” and the case “very difficult.” The showdown is expected to reach the UK Supreme Court for a decisive ruling.
