Logan Mwangi’s Tragic Death: Shocking Court Drama Unfolds
The body of young Logan Mwangi was found dumped in the River Ogmore, Sarn, Bridgend, last July. The boy suffered a horrific 56 internal injuries, sparking a murder investigation that has gripped Cardiff Crown Court.
John Cole’s Disturbing Police Confession
John Cole, 40, told police he was woken by Angharad Williamson, 31, screaming that Logan was dead. Both Cole, Williamson, and a 14-year-old teenager deny murdering Logan.
In a chilling police interview played in court, Cole claimed: “I’m certain neither of us wanted to hurt Logan, not like this.” He admitted both he and Williamson had hit Logan before, describing the boy as “clumsy” and “always jumping off stuff”.
Cole said Logan was unwell with Covid and becoming increasingly agitated, jumping on drawers the day before his body was found. He admitted to carrying Logan into a bedroom and “throwing him on the bed” but could not explain the boy’s injuries.
He told officers Logan later slipped and landed in the bath but was still “kicking off” when Cole went to sleep. Cole said: “I literally woke up to him dead, and it didn’t make sense. I love Logan – I didn’t murder him, I tried to save him.”
Dark Secrets and Sinister Threats
The court also heard alarming evidence about the 14-year-old suspect. A support worker testified that the teen said, “Where are the kids? I want to kill all the kids.” Another worker revealed he had been singing about punching children in the head, calling it “orgasmic” after Logan’s death.
Family Feuds and Blame Game
A tense phone call between Williamson and her mother was read in court. Williamson questioned how Cole could plead guilty to perverting the course of justice yet deny murder. She insisted: “What has he done to my son? I need to know.”
Williamson also sent a letter to her family denying any involvement in Logan’s death. She wrote: “I’ve lost my son and my ex-partner admitted to hurting child L and moving his body. As my parents, I hope you know I have nothing to do with child L’s death. I’m not the monster they are saying I am in the media.”
She added she felt “alone and scared” but promised the truth about Logan would emerge.
All Three Deny Murder Charges
John Cole, Angharad Williamson, and the 14-year-old all deny murdering Logan. Cole has pleaded guilty to perverting the course of justice, but Williamson and the teenager deny this charge. Both adults also deny causing or allowing the death of a child.
The trial continues.
