Shocking Daylight Attack on 74-Year-Old Man by Chesterfield Canal
A 74-year-old man was brutally assaulted while walking next to the Chesterfield Canal in Worksop on the morning of Friday, 25 November 2022. The attack happened around 11.30am between the Lock Keeper pub and Rhodesia bridge.
Unprovoked Assault Leaves Victim Seriously Injured
The victim was approached by a man who suddenly punched him and then pinned him to the ground after he fell. The terrifying ordeal lasted about five minutes, during which the victim pleaded for his release. He suffered a broken collarbone and facial injuries.
Suspect Arrested but Released on Bail
A man was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm relating to the incident. However, he has been released on bail while police continue their investigations.
Police Appeal for Witnesses
Police Constable Katherine Tremayne from Nottinghamshire Police condemned the attack as “a nasty unprovoked assault which happened in broad daylight.” She added:
“While we believe this is an isolated incident, the victim was left feeling deeply shocked and scared and in a great deal of pain. Our inquiries are ongoing, and we are working hard to trace the man responsible for this appalling crime.”
Officers are asking anyone who was near the area at the time or who has information about the attack to come forward.
