Drunken One-Punch Brawl Ends in Tragedy
A 28-year-old man has been locked up for four years and eight months after a deadly one-punch assault in Grantham.
Argument Turns Fatal in Pub Garden
Luke Templeman, from Launder Terrace, Grantham, was drinking at the Kings Arms on Westgate on the night of February 28. He met 34-year-old Danny Maguire, who had already been at the pub earlier. The pair carried on drinking in the beer garden, where tensions quickly boiled over.
Witnesses say Templeman walked away from Maguire but suddenly returned and delivered a single, crushing punch to his face. Maguire collapsed immediately, lying motionless on the ground.
Victim Dies Days Later From Head Injury
Emergency services rushed to the scene at around 11.20pm. Maguire was rushed to Queen’s Medical Centre with a serious head injury. Tragically, he died a week later on March 6.
Detective’s Stark Warning: One Punch Can Kill
“This case tragically demonstrates the devastating consequences one punch can have,” said Detective Inspector Jon Shield.
“Every weekend, people, often drunk, think violence is acceptable. I hope this makes them think twice. Even one punch can kill.”
“Our sympathies go to Mr Maguire’s family, who will never fully recover from their loss.”
