Thief Throws Stolen Power Tools From Car During 135mph Police Chase
A brazen crook who hurled stolen power tools from his car while fleeing Kent Police has been locked up for two years and seven months.
David Peters, 30, from Brixton, led officers on a hair-raising six-mile chase along the M2 after patrols spotted his shoddy driving. His BMW estate was linked to several thefts in Sittingbourne.
High-Speed Chase Ends In Field After Dangerous Driving
The drama unfolded in the early hours of 19 April 2019. At 3.52am, officers were alerted to Peters’ speeding car, reaching up to 135mph on the M2 heading towards London.
Refusing to stop, Peters threw stolen power tools out of the vehicle towards pursuing police cars. A police helicopter helped track the chase. The tools were later confirmed stolen from vehicles in Connaught Road, Bell Road, and Park Road, Sittingbourne.
Peters didn’t stop there — he ran red lights and lost control near Blackheath before crashing into a field off Prince 1 Road.
Hiding in Garden, Charged With Multiple Offences
After abandoning his smashed car, Peters fled on foot but was found hiding in a nearby garden. He admitted to four offences at Maidstone Crown Court:
- Dangerous driving
- Driving while disqualified
- Theft
- Handling stolen goods
PC James Hales slammed Peters for his reckless behaviour: “Peters made a conscious decision to endanger the lives of innocent members of the public and police officers, in an attempt to evade justice. His clear and obvious disregard for the law has led to a custodial sentence.”
Alongside his jail term, Peters has been banned from driving for four years and will need an extended test to get his licence back.
