Bonfire Night Set to Blow Up Like Never Before!
With less than two weeks until November 5th, Bonfire Night is gearing up to go off with a bigger bang than ever!
Back Garden Fireworks Boom
Cancelled public events have families stocking up on firework display packs to create their own backyard spectacles. Sales have rocketed in the lead-up to Guy Fawkes Night, which falls on a Thursday this year, promising celebrations to spill into the weekend.
The surge in demand has sparked a rise in pop-up firework shops across the UK, as market leaders cash in on the DIY display craze.
Emergency Services Brace for the Worst
With pro shows off the cards, emergency services predict their busiest year yet, dealing with more amateur garden displays than ever before.
Know the Law Before You Light Up
Firework rules are crystal clear:
- You must be 18 or older to buy adult fireworks (categories 2 and 3).
- Category 4 fireworks are strictly for professionals.
- No setting off or throwing fireworks in streets or public places.
- Fireworks can only be set off between 7am and 11pm — exceptions apply:
- Bonfire Night: midnight cut-off
- New Year’s Day, Diwali, Chinese New Year: 1am cut-off
- Purchase fireworks only from registered sellers on these dates:
- 15 October to 10 November (for Bonfire Night)
- 26 to 31 December
- Three days before Diwali and Chinese New Year
- Buying outside these windows? You must head to licensed shops.
- Illegal sales or usage can lead to £5,000 fines, up to six months in prison, or on-the-spot £90 fines.
Also, under the Animal Welfare Act 2006, fireworks must NOT cause unnecessary suffering to animals. Avoid setting them off near horses or livestock, especially in rural areas. Always warn neighbouring farmers before your display.
