Sussex Police Nab 279 Drink and Drug Drivers This Festive Season
Sussex Police have cracked down hard on drink and drug drivers this Christmas, making 279 arrests during their annual festive crackdown. Running through December and into the New Year, the campaign targets deadly road crashes and is backed by tough penalties handed out in court.
Courts Hit Offenders with Heavy Sentences
- Jay Hickey, 33, homeless, was stopped in Worthing on 2 December. After refusing a blood test, he was banned from driving for 16 months and fined £120, plus court costs and a victim surcharge.
- Billie Saunders, 24, from Crawley, was caught with a breath alcohol level more than double the legal limit on 6 December. She landed a 17-month ban, steep fines, court costs, and a victim surcharge.
- Krystian Nierwinski, 27, no fixed address, was nearly four times over the limit and driving without a licence or insurance on 28 December in Bognor Regis. Crawley Magistrates’ Court slapped him with a 26-month driving ban, a heavy fine, costs, and a victim surcharge.
One Drink Behind the Wheel Can Destroy Lives
Sussex Police warn drink and drug driving still causes horrific crashes with devastating effects on victims and their families. Officers say even one drink can dull your judgement and kill your reaction time on the road.
The force promises to keep revealing court results as prosecutions from the Christmas crackdown continue.
