Delivery Driver Murderers Jailed for Brutal Battersea Attack
Three men have been handed prison sentences for the savage killing of Uber Eats driver Iderval da Silva in Battersea. Jaden Richards, 20, and Tay Clovey, 16, were convicted of murder at the Old Bailey on 2 January. Richards received a life sentence with a minimum of 13 years, while Clovey was sentenced to life with at least 11-and-a-half years behind bars.
A 17-year-old co-defendant was found guilty of manslaughter and sentenced to four years.
Fierce Daylight Assault Over Moped Theft
The shocking attack took place in broad daylight on 25 May 2019, when Iderval, 46, spotted Clovey trying to steal his moped outside Charlotte Despard Avenue, SW11. Confronting Clovey sparked a brutal group assault.
Iderval was left unconscious with a serious head injury. Despite emergency services rushing him to hospital, he died three days later.
The post-mortem confirmed a fatal head injury, prompting a murder probe by the Homicide and Major Crime Command.
CCTV and Clues Lead to Convictions
Witnesses, including Iderval’s friends, saw the unprovoked beating. CCTV footage and a mobile phone accidentally dropped by one attacker helped police zero in on the culprits.
Detective Inspector Tariq Farooqi said: “This was a truly horrific and unwarranted attack in broad daylight. The group were ferocious and heartless in the way they attacked him. Iderval’s family have described him as a person who was always there for people, never thinking of himself.”
“He taught Capoeira, a Brazilian martial art, and wanted to use it to steer young people away from crime. His murder has robbed the community of that chance.”
“I only hope the guilty verdicts and sentences bring some comfort to his family and the community.”
