Gunfight and chaos erupt in Luton over cannabis factory raid!

Gunshots, brawls and car chases shake Hallwicks Road

In the early hours of 3 March 2021, Luton exploded into chaos. Police were called after gunshots rang out and violent clashes broke out between several armed men on Hallwicks Road. Witnesses reported cars—including a blue Seat, black Vauxhall Astra, and silver Astra—were seen chasing each other, crashing into each other and even smashing into a local resident’s vehicle.

Cannabis factory raid sparks deadly showdown

The mayhem started when a group tried to break into a nearby property operating as a cannabis factory. Police later found nearly 200 plants spread over four rooms. A man inside called his criminal pals, who rushed over armed with weapons—including a firearm—turning the scene into a violent free-for-all.

Police crackdown leads to arrests and huge haul

Weeks later, officers swooped with search warrants on addresses in Luton and Shefford. They nabbed Edison Lilaj, Gezim Brahimaj, and Albiont Kucai, charging them with multiple offences linked to the violent incident.

During the raids, cops seized:

  • The infamous blue Seat car involved in the chase
  • Two mobile phones used on the day
  • Two large bags of cannabis
  • Close to £20,000 in cash
  • Bank statements showing around £42,000 in accounts
  • A receipt for a luxury watch worth over £2,000
  • A water bill linked to the cannabis factory property

Harsh sentences handed down at Luton Crown Court

On Wednesday, all three men were sentenced:

  • Gezim Brahimaj, 36, of Somersby Close, Luton, admitted conspiracy to produce drugs and owning criminal property. He was also found guilty of violent disorder and possessing a firearm with intent to endanger life. Brahimaj copped a massive 18 years and five months behind bars, including 15-and-a-half years for the firearm offence and almost three years for drug dealing.
  • Albiont Kucai, 33, of Stockingstone Road, Luton, was convicted of conspiracy to cultivate cannabis, assisting an offender, and possessing criminal property. He received four years and four months in prison.
  • Edison Lilaj, 34, of Axon Paddock, Shefford, found guilty of violent disorder, was sentenced to nearly four years in prison.

This violent showdown over a massive cannabis operation has dealt a heavy blow to Luton’s criminal underworld.
