Chaos in Westminster: Three Cops Hurt, 40 Arrested in Massive Protest
Violence erupted in Westminster on Tuesday night as a protest spiralled out of control. Three police officers were injured, with one seriously hurt after being hit in the face by a bottle thrown from the crowd. Meanwhile, 40 protesters were arrested as tensions boiled over.
Bottle Attack Leaves Officer Seriously Injured
One officer suffered a serious facial injury from a bottle thrown by an unidentified suspect. Two other officers sustained minor injuries during the disorder. Police are urgently investigating the assault as part of their wider inquiry into the protest outbreak.
Thousands Protest, But Trouble Comes from a Defiant Minority
The protest, organised by the Palestine Solidarity Group among others, drew between 8,000 and 10,000 people. Most dispersed peacefully from Whitehall by 8pm as planned. However, trouble flared when around 500 refused to leave, triggering several arrests.
The defiant group marched towards Bridge Street by Westminster Station, prompting police to establish cordons. Officers used force to remove those resisting arrest amid reports of assaults on emergency workers and obstruction of highways.
Police Crackdown Ends Disorder by Dawn
- Shortly before 10pm, officers moved to arrest leaders of the breakaway protest.
- A total of 40 individuals were charged with Public Order offences and assaults on police.
- By 2am Wednesday, all protesters had cleared and Bridge Street reopened.
The Metropolitan Police stressed their commitment to public safety and urged witnesses to come forward about the bottle-throwing attack. Updates are available via official channels and news platforms.
